Small‑caps and mid‑caps weren’t spared either, dropping around 0.3% and 0.2% respectively.

Amid broader investor caution, financials and private bank indices dipped 0.2% and 1% respectively, largely due to a sharp fall in Kotak Mahindra Bank shares after disappointing numbers.

📌 But why did TCS suffer?

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, TCS confirmed plans to cut around 12,000 jobs, approximately 2% of its global workforce (almost 613,000 employees).

This move primarily affects middle- and senior-management roles, as TCS pivots to become more tech- and AI-aligned.

And, so the market got angry…

Investors responded swiftly.

By mid-morning on July 28, TCS stock had dropped 1.7–2%, hitting intraday levels near ₹3,081 on the BSE and NSE.

It’s Thursday, almost the weekend. Hope you’ve had a good week so far.

If you’ve been planning a trip to the United States (for a course, holiday, work, or just to catch up with friends), there’s a new update you might want to be aware of. It involves a new visa fee, and yes, it adds a bit more to your travel budget.

Let’s break it down.

📌 So, why the new visa fee?

Starting soon, the United States will be charging a new $250 (₹22,000) fee for most people applying for non-immigrant visas.

This is in addition to the existing $185 visa application fee, so the total now comes to $435 (₹38,000) for affected applicants.

This change is part of a broader policy push originally introduced during the Trump administration, aimed at strengthening immigration systems and improving travel infrastructure within the country.

📌 Who has to pay this new fee?

Anyone applying for a non-immigrant visa will have to pay the fee. That includes:

• Tourists

• Students

• Business travelers

• Temporary workers

• Medical visitors

In short, most short-term travelers from countries like India, Brazil, China, and Mexico will now see this additional cost when applying.

According to the US State Department, over 11 million non-immigrant visas were issued in 2024 alone. So yes, the change will affect quite a few people.

📌 Here’s who won’t have to pay it

Not everyone is impacted.

People from countries that are part of the US visa waiver program won’t need to pay the new fee. This includes most of Europe, as well as:

• The UK

• Australia

• Japan

• South Korea

• Israel

• Chile

• Qatar

Most Canadian travelers are also exempt.

📌 Oh, and can you get a refund?

Possibly, but details are still unclear.

Officials have said that the fee might be refundable after your trip if you’ve complied with all visa rules.

However, there’s currently no confirmed system for how or when the refund would be processed.

That lack of clarity has left many travelers confused, and for now, it’s safest to assume that you’ll need to budget for the full amount.

📌 What does this mean for tourism?

People working in the tourism and travel industry are concerned.

While the larger policy also includes positive changes, like improving immigration technology and airport systems, many believe this fee could discourage international visitors.

Geoff Freeman, CEO of the US Travel Association, called the new visa fees “foolish” and said they could negatively impact the country’s tourism economy.

Parisa Karaahmet, an immigration lawyer, also pointed out that the uncertainty around refunds may make travelers think twice before planning a trip. Especially students and first-time visitors.

📌 And yes, other fees are going up too

A few other travel-related charges are also seeing a hike:

• The I-94 form fee (used to track arrivals and departures) will go from $6 to $24

• EVUS (used by certain Chinese travelers) will increase from $8 to $30

• ESTA (used by travelers from visa waiver countries) will go from $21 to $40

These fees may also rise with inflation in the future, which means the cost of travelling to the US could continue to go up in the coming years.

How’s your Tuesday looking? Hopefully calmer than what went down in Parliament yesterday.

The monsoon session kicked off on Monday with the usual ceremonial pace. The Rajya Sabha met, leaders took their seats, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was right there, presiding like always. Everything seemed in order, until it wasn’t.

A few hours into the day, Dhankhar announced that he has resigned.

Yep. Just like that.

📌 The resignation came without warning

In a formal letter to President Droupadi Murmu, the 74-year-old wrote that he was stepping down “effective immediately” under Article 67(a) of the Constitution, citing health concerns and the need to follow “medical advice.”

It was polite, respectful, and... strangely timed.

After all, Dhankhar’s five-year term wasn’t set to end until August 2027.

So why leave now?

His health has been a concern; he had angioplasty earlier this year and fainted at a public event in June. But on Monday, he wasn’t just present, he was active. He chaired sessions, swore in members, and even scheduled judiciary-related announcements for the next day.

So, the resignation has left everyone asking: What really happened?

The timing feels too convenient

Let’s break this down.

Hours before quitting, Dhankhar took a bold and unexpected step: he accepted an opposition-sponsored motion to remove Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court. The motion was based on reports of large sums of burnt cash found at the judge’s residence.

This move reportedly caught the Centre off guard.

Soon after, Dhankhar called a high-level meeting. Strangely, two key BJP leader - JP Nadda and Kiren Rijiju didn’t show up.

Then, came his unannounced visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan.

And finally, the resignation.

📌 Also, the opposition is not buying the health story

Several opposition leaders have publicly raised doubts.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said he had spoken to Dhankhar just hours before the resignation and that he “seemed completely fine.”

His reaction was “shocking and inexplicable.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey questioned why the resignation was timed with Day One of the Monsoon Session. If it was really about health, he argued, why not resign before or after the session?

Samajwadi Party MP Javed Ali Khan, who saw Dhankhar in the House that day, said he “seemed perfectly okay.”

Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat also added a cryptic remark:

“Two and two don’t always make four in politics. There are elections in Bihar. You can think… it seems like pressure or planning.”

📌 So, is a larger power struggle at play?

Political observers are speculating this might not just be about one resignation, it could be part of a larger tug-of-war within the ruling alliance.

Dhankhar wasn’t known for staying quiet. His tenure saw moments of visible friction with the opposition, including an impeachment motion in December 2024, a rare move that only highlighted his strong-willed style.

Despite a 90% drop in net profit YoY, Eternal’s shares jumped over 7% intraday and closed up 5% on the BSE.

Confused? Same.

But here's what really happened👇

📌 Blinkit stole the limelight

Eternal’s quick commerce arm, Blinkit, had a blockbuster quarter.

For the first time ever, Blinkit’s net order value (NOV) exceeded that of food delivery, marking a major shift in the company's core engine.

• Blinkit added 243 new stores this quarter, taking the total to 1,544, with plans to hit 2,000 by December 2025.

• NOV grew 127% YoY, thanks to a 123% jump in monthly transacting customers.

• They even added 0.4 million sq. ft. of warehouse space to keep pace.

Meanwhile, Eternal's overall B2C businesses are now running at an annualized $10 billion NOV. Half of that is driven by Blinkit alone.

And even the profits aren’t that pretty.

• Net profit crashed to ₹25 crore from ₹253 crore a year ago.

• EBITDA dropped 42% YoY to ₹172 crore.

• But… food delivery margins did improve (from 3.9% to 5%).

📌 So, why the sudden stock surge?

Investors chose growth over profitability, for now.

They’re betting big on future scalability, category leadership, and Eternal’s ability to capture more market share. The quick commerce wave is real, and Blinkit’s momentum might just be too strong to ignore.

Harshal Dasani from INVasset calls this a “clear indicator of long-term potential,” citing massive YoY revenue growth in Hyperpure (90%) and quick commerce (153%).

Even on the technical charts, Eternal is holding strong above the ₹242 breakout level, with analysts expecting a near-term move toward ₹286.

📌 Air India’s Dreamliners

Because sometimes, the roads, or in this case, a bridge, hold stories we can’t ignore.

📌 The tragedy

On a regular Sunday afternoon, when most people were out enjoying their weekend, tragedy struck near Kund Mala, a scenic tourist destination roughly 40km from Pune.

A narrow iron-and-concrete footbridge spanning the Indrayani River gave way, sending over a hundred people, and several two-wheelers crashing into the waters below.

Four people died, including a five-year-old boy, and over 50 others were injured. One person is still missing.

So, what went wrong?

Turns out, everything that happened could have been avoided.

📌 An unsafe structure

The bridge wasn’t just old, it had already been declared unsafe by the authorities.

A signboard prohibiting entry was installed, and the district administration had issued official warnings just a week prior. But tourists and locals continued to use the bridge, likely tempted by convenience or the view.

Maharashtra's Water Resources and Disaster Management Minister, Girish Mahajan, was blunt:

“There were more than 100 people on the bridge. It was beyond its carrying capacity… A warning board was there. People still used it.”

Among the victims confirmed by police was little Vihan Mane, along with two others (Chandrakant Sathle and Rohit Mane.) The fourth deceased is yet to be identified.

📌 There was “no space, just chaos”

One survivor, Umakant Dalvi, described the moment:

“There was no space. It was crowded, and there were some bikes on it. The situation worsened quickly.”

As the bridge snapped under the pressure, bikes and people plunged into the river. Some were lucky to be pulled out immediately. Others weren't.

📌 And the bridge was neglected by systems

Built over 30 years ago by the Public Works Department, the bridge has since been transferred to the Pune Zilla Parishad.

Local leaders had already flagged it as dangerous. In fact, Rs 8 crore had been approved for a new parallel bridge. The funds were there, the plans were drawn, but construction had not started.

Even more alarming, there were no barricades to physically stop access to the old bridge. Some villagers used it daily as a shortcut.

In hindsight, that shortcut became a fatal detour.

📌Plus, there was no accountability

The rescue effort was swift, involving the NDRF, police, fire brigade, and other teams. Two bodies were recovered using cranes. Search for the missing person resumes Monday.

A five-member committee has been set up by the district collector, Jitendra Dudi, to investigate the incident.

The team is tasked with identifying administrative gaps and recommending new safety protocols within 15 days.

Minister Mahajan also emphasized that police accountability will be pursued:

“The bridge was not guarded despite clear orders… I’ll request the CM to act against any personnel found guilty.”

So, what’s next?

The Maharashtra government has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and pledged to cover all medical expenses for the injured.

But remember that this wasn’t just a freak accident. It was a failure of follow-through, vigilance, and planning.

Today’s story is one such moment.

But first, let’s look at the fatal Air India crash that shocked the nation yesterday…

📌 “Mayday”…“Mayday”

On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London’s Gatwick Airport, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

There were 242 people onboard, 169 Indian nationals, 43 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian

The flight carried 217 adults and 11 children, many of them headed home, many returning from visits, business trips, or family events. Tragically, 241 lost their lives, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Just seconds after takeoff at 1:39 p.m., air traffic control received a Mayday call. Then: complete radio silence.

The plane lost signal at 08:08:51 UTC, and within moments, it crashed outside the airport perimeter, tearing into the residential quarters and mess hall of B J Medical College and Civil Hospital.

The crash is now confirmed as India’s deadliest single-aircraft tragedy, and the first involving a Dreamliner in the country. More than 290 body bags have been recovered.

📌 Now, about the man who survived - the ‘God’s child’

“I remember a loud noise. The pilot shouted, ‘Mayday.’ And then, heat. Fire. I don’t know how, but I jumped.”

These are the fragmented memories of Viswashkumar Ramesh, the sole confirmed survivor of Thursday’s devastating Air India crash in Ahmedabad.

Viswash’s seat, 11A, became his lifeline. His brother, sitting just across the aisle in 11J, didn’t survive.

When rescuers found him, Viswash was barefoot, bloodied, and crying for help:
“Plane fatyo che!” (The plane has exploded!)

Hours earlier, the brothers had waved goodbye to their family in Diu. They had lived in the UK for over 15 years, building a life, a business, and shared dreams. Now, Viswash lies in a guarded hospital ward, dazed and asking the question no one dares to answer:

“Where is my brother?”

📌 But things get weird here…

Aviation studies say the safest seats in a crash are usually in the back, especially the middle ones.

But Ramesh, who was seated near the front, still survived. He walked out barefoot through the smoke and wreckage, the only one to make it out alive.

Experts say survival isn’t just about where you sit. It also depends on how the plane crashes, how close you are to an exit, and sometimes, just pure luck.

Because while most of us were planning our next vacation in the hills, two tragic cases have happened there.

Let’s unpack the latest…

📌 A quick recap

On 3rd June, a day after Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was found in a gorge in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya Police identified his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, as the prime suspect in what they dubbed ‘Operation Honeymoon.’

Just days into their marriage, Sonam allegedly plotted Raja’s murder with help from her lover and hired killers.

He followed the newlyweds from Guwahati to Shillong, where Raja was killed on May 23. His body was discovered on June 2.

Investigators grew suspicious as the couple took no honeymoon photos. A 120-member police force, including 20 core officers, cracked the case through raids and forensic clues like bloodied clothes and abandoned raincoats.

Sonam fled to Indore and later surrendered in Uttar Pradesh.

All conspirators, including her lover Raj Kushwaha, who planned the murder remotely, are now in custody.

📌 Now, on to the death of Namrata Bora…

Just a day after the shock of Sonam Raghuvanshi’s arrest in a honeymoon horror case, Meghalaya is once again under the spotlight, this time for the suspicious death of 25-year-old law intern, Namrata Bora.

Coming from Assam’s Golaghat district, Namrata was reportedly involved in a road accident near Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi, while returning from Shillong with four others. But her family isn’t buying the “accident” story.

Namrata had been traveling with Anayatul Wadud (an AIUDF youth leader and son of an MLA), Mriganka Bora, Pragya Dihingia, and Gayatri Bora. The car they were in crashed around 4:15 AM, killing Namrata on the spot.

While the others escaped with minor injuries, Namrata was declared dead at Nongpoh Civil Hospital.

Her family, however, suspects foul play.

Her father, Ramen Bora, also questioned several details:

• Why did she leave her iPhone behind?

• Why was she wearing casual clothes, unlike her usual outing attire?

• Why didn’t the friends inform the family directly about the accident?

Namrata’s brother has filed FIRs both in Meghalaya and Assam, naming all four companions as suspects.

The Meghalaya Police have detained them for questioning and conducted a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya have both stepped in, with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma demanding a “detailed inquiry” and Meghalaya’s CM ordering the police to expedite the investigation.

As her family grieves and presses for answers, the eerie similarities with the Raghuvanshi case have left the public shaken.

Is it just a tragic coincidence or something far more sinister?
