Hey there,
It’s Friday, breathe in, breathe out, and maybe take a break from that mounting to-do list (or at least pretend to).
We’re back in your inbox to catch you up on what’s shaking the skies and stirring the travel world this week.
Let’s dive right in…
📌 The full list of canceled flights
In yet another twist in India's aviation woes, Air India cancelled eight flights, four international and four domestic, due to what it termed as “enhanced maintenance and operational reasons.”
The airline is grappling with the aftermath of the AI171 crash and is under heavy scrutiny from regulators and the public alike.
The affected international routes include:
AI906: Dubai to Chennai
AI308: Delhi to Melbourne
AI309: Melbourne to Delhi
AI2204: Dubai to Hyderabad
And on the domestic front:
AI874: Pune to Delhi
AI456: Ahmedabad to Delhi
AI2872: Hyderabad to Mumbai
AI571: Chennai to Mumbai
The airline has offered full refunds or free rescheduling and says its ground staff is doing everything they can to help reroute passengers.
“We regret the inconvenience… our colleagues are making alternative arrangements,” the official statement reads.
Passengers are also being urged to check their flight status via Air India’s website or call the helpline numbers (011 69329333 / 011 69329999).
📌 What’s the bigger picture?
This isn’t just about cancelled flights. Air India had already announced a temporary reduction in services between June 21 and July 15.
This includes several Boeing 787 and 777 international routes.
The reason? A mix of airspace restrictions in the Middle East, weather challenges, and a decision to voluntarily undergo enhanced safety checks.
Let’s not forget: the fallout comes days after the June 12 crash of flight AI171, where over 270 lives were lost, both on board and on the ground.
The crash has triggered intense investigations by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and public calls for overhauling safety protocols across Indian aviation.
📌 So... what’s next?
N Chandrasekaran, Air India’s Chairman, publicly acknowledged the crisis, saying, “Very sorry, no words…” in response to public outrage and swirling rumours.
The airline is attempting to restore schedule stability and passenger confidence, but with increasing cancellations, mounting investigations, and public pressure, it’s going to be a long flight ahead.
