Let me tell you a story that’s equal parts grit, hustle, and pure determination. Meet Sahil Pandita, the founder of ProMiller, an Indian hotel asset management company that’s growing at an incredible 100% year-on-year. But his journey to success didn’t exactly begin in a plush office or with a hefty bank balance. Instead, it started in a cramped dorm room and a low-paying job where he cleaned toilets and chopped vegetables.
So, here’s his full story…
Did you know Sahil’s first salary was just ₹5,200 a month? That’s what he earned when he joined a Hotel Operation Trainee program at Clarks Inn in Hubli, Karnataka.
A young guy in his late teens doing everything from carrying guest luggage to scrubbing toilets and even washing utensils. It wasn’t glamorous, but Sahil saw these tasks as stepping stones, not setbacks.
And this is where the magic lies - he didn’t shy away from starting small. Too often, we let the size of our first steps discourage us, but Sahil’s journey reminds us that those initial steps are what build the foundation for something extraordinary.
But, hard work pays off…
Let’s talk about Bengaluru in 2012, where Sahil joined ITC Hotels as a front-office assistant. He spent 14-15 hours a day at the hotel, putting in the kind of hard work that most people only talk about. But here’s the twist - he couldn’t afford a decent place to live.
He shared a dorm room with 14 other boys, dealing with bed bugs, and a single washroom for everyone. Eventually, he started sleeping in the hotel bunker to avoid the chaos.
“Why would anyone work so hard?” you might wonder. For Sahil, it wasn’t just about earning a paycheck; it was about soaking up knowledge and building the skills that would set him apart. At ITC, he learned how every department functioned, which later helped him climb the ladder faster than most.
Sahil’s managers at ITC noticed his potential and got him enrolled in the ITC Hospitality Management Institute, a prestigious program that not only trained him but also covered his fees, provided a stipend, and even gave him three meals a day.
This opportunity was a game-changer. Sahil didn’t just learn the basics of hospitality; he mastered it. Soon after, he joined the Welcom Lead Program, a stepping stone to leadership roles.
But Sahil, being Sahil, didn’t stop there. At just 18 years old, he cracked an interview at Hyatt Regency in Delhi and became the youngest Shift Manager in Hyatt India’s history.
Sahil’s hustle didn’t end even after he reached managerial positions. At Hyatt, he worked 16-hour shifts, sometimes on consecutive days, just to ensure he knew every aspect of the job.
By the age of 22, he had moved to one of India’s leading asset management firms, helping hotels streamline their operations, manage finances, and improve overall efficiency.
And then came his big leap: in 2018, he founded ProMiller, a company that now helps hotel owners track daily operations and financial inflows. Fast forward to today, and ProMiller is raking in ₹2.5 crore in annual revenue.
Now, about the Audi
One of my favorite parts of Sahil’s story is when he makes a promise to his ex-boss. As he was leaving a job, he said, “I’ll buy an Audi within a year.” At just 24 years old, he fulfilled that promise.
That’s not just a flex—it’s a testament to what focus and hard work can achieve.
