Hello there! We’re halfway through the week, and what better time to reflect on the power of gratitude? Take a moment today to appreciate where you are and the journey that’s brought you here.
“Gratitude turns what we have into enough”
Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s lacking to what you already have. This helps in calming worries about what you don’t have or haven’t achieved yet. By appreciating the present moment and the things around you, you cultivate a positive outlook on life, making challenges feel more manageable.
Moreover, by embracing this mindset, you’ll find joy in the present and reduce the pressure to chase after what you don’t have, making life feel more balanced and fulfilling.

So, why are we talking about dating apps?
Because there’s another one in the market. So, first, let’s learn a bit about it.
Julio is the newest talk in the Indian matchmaking scene. Launched in 2023 by Varun Sud and Chiranjeev Ghai, Julio brands itself not as a typical dating or matrimony app but rather as a Trusted Singles Club. Their mission? To help people find meaningful relationships without the usual dating app fatigue or endless swiping.
What makes Julio different?
Well, it’s all about authenticity. Every member of this “club” is government-verified and video-checked. So, you’re not just connecting with random profiles—you’re interacting with real, verified people looking for something serious. Privacy is a big deal, too. Women’s profiles are kept private by default, and they get to decide who can see them.
And if you're wondering about the price, Julio’s premium membership starts at Rs 999 (about $45 for international users) for a 30-day trial, which guarantees one meet or event. After that, memberships vary based on the service level—Regular, Premium, or VIP.
But did we really need another dating app?
I know I may sound like a mother but the rising number of scams and crimes related to dating apps do tell a story that we’re ignoring.
Don’t believe me? Take a look at this 👇

And the most gruesome of all of them was this 👇
Before I dive deep into the damage dating apps are causing, let’s give this story a read
The Bone-Chilling Story of Dushyant Sharma
Three individuals, Priya Seth, Dishkant Kamra, and Lakshya Walia, were sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of 28-year-old businessman Dushyant Sharma. The story dates back to February 2018, when Priya, the main accused, first met Dushyant on Tinder. Over time, they became acquainted, but Priya had a sinister plan in mind. She eventually invited him to a rented apartment, where she and her two accomplices held him hostage.
Their motive was clear: to extract a ransom from Dushyant's family. They demanded Rs 10 lakh from his father, and after receiving a partial payment of Rs 3 lakh, they withdrew Rs 20,000 using Dushyant's debit card. However, fear began to creep in, and worried that their actions would soon be discovered, they made the horrific decision to murder him.
According to the prosecution, the group stabbed Dushyant multiple times and smothered him with a pillow. After killing him, they dismembered his body and placed the remains into a suitcase, which they later discarded on the road to Delhi.
This isn’t just a one-off incident; it’s a reflection of the serious dangers lurking in the world of dating apps.
The anonymity and distance that dating apps provide can make users vulnerable to deception, harassment, and even violence. Just like what happened to Dushyant, people can find themselves in dangerous situations with someone they thought was safe because they seemed charming online. Unfortunately, the lack of accountability on these apps often leaves victims feeling alone and without support.
Here are a few types of dating scams to be aware of:
📌 Romance scams
Romance scams are particularly insidious because they prey on our natural desire for connection and love.
How it happens?
Suppose you meet someone online who seems perfect—charismatic, charming, and genuinely interested in you. Over time, they build a relationship with you, showering you with affection and compliments, making you feel valued and understood. But as the connection deepens, they begin to weave in tales of hardship. Maybe they claim they're stuck in a foreign country with a sudden medical emergency or that they need help covering unexpected bills. The emotional manipulation can be overwhelming, leading you to believe that you're the only person they can trust in their time of need.
But they often leave after asking for money to help them out of these “crises,” leaving you with a heavy heart—and potentially a significant financial loss.
📌 Identity Theft
It is a serious concern, especially in the realm of online dating. Scammers are adept at gathering personal information from their victims, often through seemingly innocent conversations that start on dating apps. They may ask probing questions or engage in discussions about personal details like full names, addresses, or financial situations, all while building a false sense of trust. Once they have enough information, these fraudsters can impersonate their victims, opening new credit accounts or making large purchases in their names.
📌 Sextortion Scams
They often start off innocently enough. A scammer will usually spend time getting to know their target, building a connection, and establishing trust. They might chat for days or even weeks, sharing personal stories and trying to create an emotional bond.
Once they feel they have your trust, they may encourage you to send explicit photos or videos. It seems like a natural step in a relationship, right? But here’s where things take a dark turn. After receiving those intimate images, the scammer reveals their true intentions. They threaten to share your private content with friends, family, or colleagues unless you pay them money.
There are several other types of scams that go on in the world of dating apps.
