Hey guys!
Today’s edition is like a road trip like no other.
From the Himalayas to the heartlands, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a two-day whirlwind tour that touches down in Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, with development projects worth over ₹75,000 crore packed in his briefcase.
So buckle up as we're tracing his route and breaking down the numbers...
📌 1st stop: Sikkim
Originally planned as the ceremonial starting point, PM Modi’s visit to Gangtok had to be shelved due to adverse weather conditions. But in true WFH (Work From Himalayas?) fashion, he pivoted smoothly, joining virtually from Bagdogra to address the people of Sikkim during the golden jubilee celebration of the state's formation.
The event, titled “Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth,” will mark 50 years since Sikkim officially became the 22nd state of India in 1975.
Here’s what’s about to hit the ground:
₹750 crore, 500-bed multispecialty hospital in Namchi
Designed to reduce medical dependency on neighbouring states and boost health tourism in the northeast, the facility will serve as a critical health hub for both locals and tourists.
Passenger ropeway in Gyalshing District
This scenic aerial transit system is expected to not only ease connectivity in the hilly terrain but also enhance Sikkim’s appeal as an adventure and eco-tourism destination.
Statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok
A tribute to the former Prime Minister’s contributions to national integration and development, the statue is set to become a prominent landmark and inspiration for civic pride.
Commemorative coin and stamp launch
Modi will release a special ₹50 coin and a commemorative postal stamp to celebrate Sikkim@50, immortalising its journey from a monarchy to a model state for ecological harmony and organic farming.
The entire event was curated under the banner of “Sunaulo, Samriddha, Samarth Sikkim,” meaning Golden, Prosperous, and Capable Sikkim.
📌 2nd stop: West Bengal
On his visit to Alipurduar and Cooch Behar, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for a ₹1,010 crore City Gas Distribution (CGD) Project, part of India’s larger push for greener infrastructure and rural inclusivity.
2.5 lakh households will now have access to piped natural gas (PNG), replacing firewood and LPG cylinders with a safer, more convenient fuel source.
19 new CNG stations will be set up across the two districts, fuelling the shift toward cleaner transport options.
Industries and small businesses in the region will benefit from uninterrupted fuel supply, reducing dependency on diesel and cutting carbon emissions.
The CGD network will also support public transport and logistics vehicles, helping Bengal’s northern belt prepare for an eco-conscious future.
This project is expected to generate hundreds of local jobs, from construction to maintenance and operations. With Alipurduar and Cooch Behar being home to tribal and tea-growing communities, the CGD initiative promises both development and dignity through cleaner energy access.
📌 3rd stop: Bihar
By Thursday evening, Modi will land in Patna to open the swanky new terminal at the airport, costing ₹1,200 crore and ready to handle 1 crore flyers a year.
Also on the radar:
Bihta Civil Enclave (₹1,410 crore) near IIT Patna
Power Projects in Aurangabad worth ₹29,930 crore
Mega highway upgrades and a new Ganga bridge
New rail line: Son Nagar to Mohammad Ganj
On May 30, Karakat will become the site of a massive ₹48,520 crore project unveiling, one of the largest one-day announcements in recent memory.
📌4th stop: Uttar Pradesh
By Friday afternoon, Modi will hit Kanpur Nagar with a ₹20,900 crore booster shot for infrastructure.
Key launches:
Metro Expansion: 14 stations, ₹2,120 crore
Panki Thermal Extension: ₹8,300 crore
Ghatampur Power Project: ₹9,330 crore
New substations + sewage plant
Rail bridges and highways for industrial boost
He’ll also hand out benefits under the PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojna and the National Livelihood Mission.
This tour isn’t just a showcase of big budgets and ribbon-cutting. It’s an election-season reminder of the PM’s on-ground presence and a bet on infrastructure-led development across India’s most diverse terrains.
Whether it’s a ropeway in Sikkim or metro tunnels in Kanpur, the message is clear:
“Vikas is the vehicle. Bharat is the journey.”
