Hey!
Let’s not pretend Mondays are easy. But here we are showing up, logging in, and trying to make sense of the world.
Today’s edition might feel like a thunderclap.
First, the skies opened up, and not in a poetic way.
Then, we dive into a story that’s far more unsettling: a teenager commits murder over ₹2600.
So, let’s get into it…
📌 Heavy rains take over Mumbai. These are the routes affected
Incessant rainfall on Monday wreaked havoc across Mumbai, particularly in the island city, triggering severe waterlogging, traffic jams, and local train delays.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded its alert from yellow to orange for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, warning of intense rainfall.
Between 9 and 10 am, Nariman Point alone recorded a staggering 104mm of rain, among the highest this season.
Several low-lying areas, including Byculla, Dadar, Matunga, and Kalachowki, were flooded, severely affecting movement.
Suburban trains on the Central Railway and Harbour Line bore the brunt, with waterlogged tracks halting services. Notably, Harbour Line train services were suspended between Wadala and CSMT since 10:25 am due to flooding at Masjid station. Western Railway ran near-normal but saw minor delays.
Key diversions included:
Gandhi Market: Buses rerouted via Bhau Daji Road (9:45 am)
Sion Road No. 24: Routes 341 & 312 diverted
Wadala Flyover: Routes 117 & 174 rerouted via Wadala Church
Hindmata Area: Routes 40, 212 & 368 diverted from Sharda Cinema
C-53 route: Disrupted at Kalamboli from 10:30 am
Traffic snarls were reported on major routes like Eastern Express Highway (Sion), Western Express Highway (Malad to Vile Parle), and New Link Road (Malad). Areas such as Kemps Corner, King’s Circle, Aarey Colony Road, and Bhoiwada saw near standstill traffic due to road damage and flooding.
Though rainfall intensity dropped post 10 am, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms over the next 24 hours. With a 4.75m high tide expected at 11:24 am, waterlogging concerns remain high.
📌 UP teen kills grandma for perfume
In a tragic incident from Mujaasa village, Malihabad, a 14-year-old boy murdered his 70-year-old grandmother, Vidyavati Devi, in a fit of rage after she refused to give him Rs 2,600; Rs 500 for perfume and an outing, and Rs 2,100 for school fees.
The boy confessed to police that after killing her, he calmly slept beside her body to avoid suspicion. Vidyavati had raised him since he was a toddler, following the deaths of his parents. She fought a legal battle to gain his custody and supported him through poverty by running a small grocery shop.
Just four days before the incident, the boy had returned to live with her, bringing his belongings and promising to stay. When she couldn’t give him the money he demanded, he lashed out violently, strangling and smothering her with a pillow.
The next morning, he locked the door and told neighbors she was unwell before leaving for school. Concerned by her silence, relatives and neighbors forced entry and discovered her body.
The boy was later taken into custody and admitted to the murder during questioning.
📌 Oh, and it turns out Alia Bhatt didn't wear 'The First Gucci Saree' at Cannes
Alia Bhatt’s appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 stirred a fashion frenzy when she walked the red carpet as L’Oréal’s global brand ambassador.
Dressed in a sparkling custom ensemble by Gucci, many believed she was wearing the brand’s first saree. Alia herself had previously expressed her wish to manifest a Gucci saree, fueling speculation.
However, Gucci later clarified on Instagram that the outfit was not a saree but a three-piece custom gown consisting of a fitted skirt, V-neck blouse, and a flowing dupatta, all embellished with crystals in their signature GG monogram.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Alia was dubbed a “modern rajkumari,” with her look completed by a mini Jackie bag and Victorian diamond jewellery by Malabar Gold and Diamonds.
While netizens debated the outfit’s identity, with some calling it a lehenga, others a gown, and some insisting it was indeed a saree, Alia’s appearance sparked important conversations about cultural fashion terminology and representation.
This marked Alia’s red carpet debut at Cannes, following Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s legacy. Earlier at the festival, she donned a Schiaparelli body-hugging off-shoulder gown with floral detailing, exuding vintage charm and understated elegance.
📌 Indian stock market gains over ₹3 lakh crore in a day
On Monday, May 26, the Indian stock market surged for the second straight session, with the Sensex climbing over 750 points to hit 82,492.24 and the Nifty 50 crossing the 25,000-mark.
Midcap and smallcap indices also gained nearly 1%. By 11:30 AM, the Sensex and Nifty were up 463 and 127 points, respectively. The rally added over ₹3 lakh crore in investor wealth, pushing BSE’s market cap beyond ₹445 lakh crore.
The bullish sentiment was driven by five key factors.
First, U.S. President Trump’s decision to delay EU tariffs sparked optimism globally, reducing fears of a trade war.
Second, the RBI announced a record ₹2.69 lakh crore dividend to the government, boosting fiscal health.
Third, the weakening U.S. dollar attracted foreign capital to emerging markets like India.
Fourth, India’s strong macroeconomic outlook with falling inflation, expected GDP growth of 6.9% in Q4FY25, and its rise as the world’s fourth-largest economy reassured investors.
Finally, surging retail participation continued to fuel market momentum, with over six lakh new investors joining last week alone.
Experts believe this combination of global relief, economic resilience, and retail enthusiasm could keep the Indian equity market on an upward trajectory.
