Hello! Today, we’re focusing on awareness - of ourselves, our surroundings, and the impact we can make. With our NGO partners, we’re shining a light on the importance of being mindful in a fast-paced world. Let’s pause, take it in, and remember that change starts with awareness.
Now, let’s start the day with a positive thought:
Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see
Acts of kindness not only benefit others but also boost your own happiness. Engaging in kind behavior can increase your sense of fulfillment and purpose, contributing to better mental and emotional health.
So, let’s get started…
Navigating Life with CHD
Let’s talk about something that’s often hidden from view but deserves every ounce of attention and empathy we can give. Living with congenital heart disease (CHD) is more than just hospital visits or medical jargon.
For these young warriors and their families, every single day is a journey filled with quiet battles, small sacrifices, and heartwarming resilience.
The Everyday Battles
For many children with CHD, even a simple meal isn’t straightforward. These kids have to stick to specific diets, monitoring everything from salt to fat content to avoid complications. While their friends might dive into snacks without a second thought, they’re holding back, making choices that a child really shouldn’t have to worry about. It’s a quiet sacrifice, but one that becomes just another “normal” part of their lives.
Ask any family dealing with CHD, and they’ll tell you - hospital visits aren’t just for emergencies. They’re part of the routine. Scheduling check-ups, follow-ups, tests… these become as familiar as family dinners. Waiting rooms and hospital corridors turn into second homes. Each visit brings a mix of nerves, prayers, and the constant hope that everything will be okay.
The Financial Load
Now, let’s be real - treatment for CHD is not easy on the pocket. Medicines, surgeries, specialized check-ups, and endless medical expenses pile up quickly. On average, a single heart surgery for CHD can cost anywhere between ₹1.5 to ₹3.5 lakh in India. Add to this the ongoing costs for follow-up tests, medication, and regular check-ups, and the expenses can reach over ₹5 lakh per year for families. And for families in smaller towns or underserved communities, this can feel insurmountable.
Navigating School and Social Life
School is supposed to be a place of fun, right? But for a child with CHD, it can be tricky. Imagine being in a game and having to stop because your heart just can’t keep up or missing days of school for a doctor’s visit. Sometimes, they feel different and isolated, but with a little understanding from teachers and friends, school can become a safe space.
How We Can Make a Difference
So, here’s where we come in. The CHD community thrives on support - be it from donations to help fund treatments, volunteering time at medical camps, or simply lending an empathetic ear. Every bit of kindness we show, every little step we take, helps ease the journey for families living with CHD.
