So, Coldplay fans, the moment we've been waiting for is almost here! The band is set to light up Mumbai with concerts on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. After almost a decade away, their return is causing quite a stir among music lovers.
But hold on a second - when tickets went on sale on September 22, 2024, things got a little chaotic. People waited in digital lines for hours, only to end up empty-handed when the tickets disappeared in the blink of an eye on sites like Zomato and BookMyShow. A major bummer!
Then, out of nowhere, we started seeing those coveted tickets pop up on Viagogo, and let me tell you, the prices were shocking!
What was once a ₹38,000 ticket skyrocketed to a whopping ₹3 lakh. It’s no wonder everyone is talking about ticket scalping - the practice where bots snap up tickets to resell them at ridiculous prices.
To add to the mix, BookMyShow stepped in to call out Viagogo as an “unauthorized platform,” warning fans to watch out for potential scams.
But things didn’t stop there!
It looks like the Mumbai police are getting involved in the ticketing drama surrounding the Coldplay concerts. They recently summoned Ashish Hemrajani, the CEO of BookMyShow's parent company, Big Tree Entertainment, to answer questions about some serious allegations of black marketing concerning the highly coveted concert tickets.
This all kicked off when a local lawyer filed a complaint, claiming that BookMyShow facilitated unauthorized ticket resales for the concerts.
The Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai police is on it, and they’re set to record statements from Hemrajani and the company’s technical head soon. In response to the accusations, BookMyShow took to social media to firmly deny any involvement in ticket reselling, reminding everyone that ticket touting is illegal.
Adding to the mix, Anand Dubey from Shiv Sena (UBT) is calling for a full investigation, pointing out that tickets are still available on unofficial sites even after BookMyShow declared the event sold out.
BTW, before we go…
Fun Fact: Even Karan Johar has failed to get a Coldplay concert ticket.
